I feel so lucky to have found this company! I wish we had more media to send because it was such a positive experience, something that seems so rare in business anymore. We were in communication with John throughout the process and start to finish I was so happy to come across Family Media Transfer.

I live over 1,000 miles away from my aging parents. With an upcoming trip to visit, my mom started asking me to research digitizing 8mm films from her childhood. Her main sticking point was avoiding a monthly/annual fee for the videos to be housed in cloud space. I looked at several companies, but I found John to be very responsive, kind, caring, and helpful. With no experience in 8mm film, John helped me understand the best way to enter the order for the number, size, and footage of 8mm reels my mom had. He also assisted in setting up a box with the order that came with the supplies to fit the reels, one less thing for my mom to worry about during and after my visit. John even offered to pick up the film if in the Minneapolis area, but that wasn’t the case for us.

The shipping process went smoothly, and John kept my mom updated upon receipt and processing of the film. Within a few days of receiving the film, he processed more than thirty reels, provided a link to the videos, and shipped the originals back.

The past few days have been so fun for my mom to watch some parts of her life that were too early to remember and other parts with her playing with family members that are now in their 70’s. She didn’t have the equipment or energy and knowledge to set it up (even if she did) to view the footage. Now, she can view them from her tablet. We are so thankful to find Family Media Transfer. John was so pleasant to work with, and if we come across additional media, we already know who will help us. John was incredible to work with as he helped me sort through literally hundreds of cassette tapes containing my father’s old sermons and recordings. From the very beginning, he was communicative, professional, friendly, and genuinely cared about the importance of what was on those tapes.

What really stood out to me was the amount of flexibility and care he brought to the process. Instead of pushing us into restoring and digitizing everything at once, he helped us prioritize the most important recordings first and worked within our budget without making us feel pressured. That meant a lot considering how overwhelming a large cassette tape restoration project like this can be.

I was also blown away by the quality of his work. He did an amazing job enhancing and mastering the audio while still preserving the authenticity of the original recordings. This was a HUGE step above using a big mail in company like Legacybox or other competitors because they don’t enhance audio. They simply digitize tapes, whereas John actually takes the time to refine the audio quality, balance levels, and preserve the integrity of the recordings. You can tell he genuinely respects the sentimental and historical value these recordings hold for families, and its worth the minimal price difference. He carefully cleaned and organized the tapes, kept me updated throughout the process, and even hand delivered everything back to me in beautiful packaging. These guys truly have their process dialed in.

If you are looking for a premium, local, family run business for cassette tape restoration, audio restoration, photo/video archiving, or digitizing family memories, I honestly would not trust anyone else. Wow! This service/company is amazing. I found these family tapes from the late 90s/early 2000s that were from an old handheld tape recorder. I tried to watch them on the recorder and hooked up to TV and it worked once, and then it didn't. I thought they were broken for good.

Then a friend told me about Family Media Transfer and it was so perfect! I finally got to see and hear the only video footage that exists of my dad, who passed in 2007. My old, broken videos were brought back to life digitally, and now I get to show them to my mom and brother. Truly, healing! I am so happy with how they turned out.

We recently worked with the team (John and Nick) at Family Media Transfer to digitize our Wedding photos from the late 1990's. We dropped off our negatives to a drop off site, they were picked up quickly, and in a matter of days, the project was done and all the images were in the cloud in a very organized format, labeled consistent with how we dropped them off. Two digital formats were provided. The invoice came via email, we paid it (the price was extremely fair for the amount of work involved), and the negatives were returned via mail in a nice box. We look forward to using them again in the future, and give them our highest recommendation.

Can't say enough about how great my experience was with Family Transfer Media. They transferred 3 Super 8mm films from the 1970s and did a super job. Received the link with the videos within 3 days and it was super easy to download and share. And my films arrived back home safe and sound a few days later in the mail. Highly recommend!

I recommend A440 Studios for film and video digital transfers. I had a mix of old media that I wanted to convert, and my previous experience with A440 doing a promotional video for a nonprofit organization gave me confidence they'd do well with the media conversions.
